Good morning viewers. Hope all are doing
well.
Today I discuss another topic.
Have you ever felt so heavy after a meal
that destroyed your efficiency? Have you
feeling tired even though you slept after 8 hours? Chances are, that you are
familiar with those feelings. Luckily, we do not have to be slave of our own
stomach.
A month ago, I re-read Anthony Robbins'
Unlimited Power. It was my first time reading it since high school. At that
time, I didn't have the discipline to apply the changes Tony Robbins suggests.
But this time around, I decided to use as many of his advices are possible. One
of the chapters that affected my life the greatest was the one on nutrition.
How important is nutrition? It might just
be the most important thing. Our nutrition dictates our health, and as we all
know it, health is the most important thing we have. No matter how educated,
smart or rich one might be, none of this matter if our body cannot follow our
mind. Tony Robbins gives a very straight-forward analogy, where having a
beautiful brain but a terrible nutrition is like trying to run a Ferrari on
cooking oil: you're not gonna go very far.
Before we dive into this, I'm aware that the
internet is full of articles about nutrition which results seem to change every
other year. Here's what I always tell myself: "Don't trust what you hear,
and only halfly trust what you see!" - However, I do trust how I feel and
I'm sure you'll feel the difference too, if you have the open-mindedness and
curiosity to try this diet.
So, what's the secret? What has made me
able to work 12-18 hours day on 5-6 hours of sleep without "crashing"
after lunch?
It is basically based on two principles:
1) There are water-rich food (vegetables
and fruits) and condensed food (= poor in water, which are carbohydrates and
proteins).
70% of the Earth is water. On average, 60%
of the human body is water. Life cannot exist without it, and that's why
researches suggest to have at least one water-rich food per meal.
2) Protein & Carbohydrate foods should
never be combined.
The idea is that your stomach uses two
different types of acid to process carbohydrates and proteins. By breaking
principle 2) "Protein & Carbohydrate foods should never be
combined," you are making your body work twice as much! Tony Robbins
explains that a good food combination (= vegetables + proteins or vegetables +
carbohydrates) takes between 4-6 hours to digest while a bad food combination
(= proteins + carbs) usually can take between 8 to 14 hours to digest! No
wonder why you're tired after last night heavy diner, even though you had a 10
hour night !
The food combination part is definitely the
most important part. Try it for two weeks, and you'll see how terribly draining
a bad combination meal feels like once you're not used to it anymore. Other
principles that changed my life include:
3) In the morning, only eat fresh fruits
and juice as long as comfortably possible.
Indeed, fruits are the highest water-rich
food. They are rich in natural sugar that are so powerful that you'll forget
about coffee and tea. However, the sugar from fruits are only absorbed in our
small intestine, not in our stomach! Eating fruits after a meal is a mistake
and practically useless, as the fruits will ferment while you're main meal is
being digested and you won't absorb much of what a fruit has to offer.
4) Don't eat too much.
That’s a hard one for me. I love eating. My
parents own a restaurant and I grew up eating delicious food. But here's the
fact: scientists conducted tests on every mammals on Earth, giving one animal
of each species unlimited food while controlling the food supply for the other
one. In 100% of cases, the animal that had unlimited food would always die first,
and in most cases, the less food was given to the other animal, the longer they'd
live. Yikes!
"Want to learn to eat a lot? Here it
is: Eat a little. That way, you will be around long enough to eat a lot."
- Tony Robbins
5) Avoid eating meat.
Yep, that's a big one, and that's why I put
it last, because I know not everybody can. I personally stopped eating meat on
a regular basis two years ago. It was a pretty easy switch for me, but I
understand how hard it can be for some, especially if you come from a an
environment where meat is one of the main ingredient of the local cuisine. At
the end of the day, you just have to ask yourself if meat gives you as much
pleasure as it used to. I know for me it doesn't. 20 years of eating meat
everyday was enough for me. I know how it taste and most importantly I know how
it makes me feel. From what I understood, every meat has to be aged - otherwise
it is pretty tasteless. What basically gives the meat taste are the dead cells
beginning to rot... Yep.
Have a great day guys.
