The study was recently published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. It was found that those who took part in the study lost an average of 8 kilograms of weight. Each of them followed a vegan diet. Again, those who followed the Mediterranean diet did not notice much difference in weight.

A researcher on behalf of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a US-based voluntary organization, said it was previously thought that both diets were effective in controlling weight and cardiometabolic risk. But no comparative experiment between the two diets has been done before.
How Vegan diet works?
Researchers claim that a low-fat vegan diet is much more effective in controlling weight, maintaining balance between body parts, maintaining insulin levels and maintaining cholesterol levels. A survey was conducted for this study. Where a few people who were overweight were chosen in a sporadic manner. They had no diabetes and were given a 1: 1 Mediterranean and vegan diet.

Over a 16-week period, a group of participants in this study began following a low-fat vegan diet. This diet consisted of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and pulses. Animal protein is removed from this diet. Another group they started taking the Mediterranean diet. This diet included fruits, vegetables, pulses, fish, low-fat dairy foods and extra virgin olive oil. Red meat and dissolved fats are kept away from this diet as much as possible.
When the study was completed, it was found that the team that followed the vegan diet had significantly lower levels of bad cholesterol in their bodies. However, those who followed the Mediterranean diet did not experience any change in their cholesterol levels. Again, in the case of two diets, blood pressure has decreased. But those who followed the Mediterranean diet, their blood pressure is much lower!
